The Arvie K Story
My love for providing entertainment started when I was 8 years old. I used to draw these little comics in my notebook during recess, and share them with my friends at the time. Before I knew it, all the kids in my school were eagerly waiting for my next comic and getting excited when I finished each one. That felt like my first real fan base.
At 14, during the summer of the pandemic, I was spending a large portion of quarantine playing games, which brought about the idea of, “What if I made one?” It was the perfect time to learn. That led me to make my first game, “Escape of Subject55”, about a robot escaping a facility. It was terrible, of course, but finishing it showed me what was possible. I then went on to create more games, and launched my YouTube channel sharing the stories behind creating them, which built my first online following under the name Arvie K (a name I honestly identify with more than my legal one). Despite the fact I didn’t make a cent back then, seeing people enjoy my creations was payment enough for me.
When I turned 18, I decided to pursue music, adding a new dimension to my entertainment journey. It all started during a music video binge, when I found myself thinking “I’d love to make something like this.” At first, I was hesitant wondering if I should just stay in my lane and stick to gamedev, but I honestly felt I had no excuse to not at least try. My gamedev background gave me skills in music production and videography, but singing was completely new. Determined to overcome this, I spent months in vocal training. By the age of 19 I began my music venture with the release of my debut single “Pictures”.
When we create entertainment, we create an experience for someone to live out and enjoy. I’ve come to realize how true that simple idea really is. It’s about giving people an escape when they need it most. I don’t like to talk about my upbringing much, but I had many moments in my own childhood when I really needed that mental escape, and playing a game, listening to music, or watching movies helped me get through it. Since then, my goal with this life has been and always will be to create those little moments of escape for others, just as entertainment once did for me.
